"Captain Stormfield's Visit to Heaven" is a short story written by American writer Mark Twain. It first appeared in print in Harper's Magazine in December 1907 and January 1908, and was published in book form with some revisions in 1909. This was the last story published by Twain during his life. The story follows Captain Elias Stormfield on his extremely long cosmic journey to heaven; his accidental misplacement; his short-lived interest in singing and playing the harp (generated by his preconceptions of heaven); and the obsession of souls with the "celebrities" of heaven, like Adam and Moses, who according to Twain become as distant to most people in heaven as living celebrities are on Earth. Twain uses this story to show his view that the common conception of heaven is ludicrous and points out the incongruities of such beliefs.

Quality of this book is much to be desired, especially illustrations but it's still pretty good.Also, grade 1 to 2 reading level s not accurate - it's more like 9th or 10th grade (in America) or 4th grade in Europe :)

I've read a lot of Mr Clements (Mark Twain) works . Unfortunately he wrote this when he was extremely angry over personal losses. It's more like ranting than a story. I finished reading it glad that it was not the first of his works I read or it would have been the last
A must read for all who believe in an after-life. Twain's vision of heaven is both humorous and thought provoking. It might be a different view of things had Stormfield learned more than one song to sing in his lifetime.
The writing is great as one would expect. The book construction / format is very disappointing. It is not annotated in any sense. It is in a tiny font (the smallest I have ever seen in a book, making it difficult to read. There are no page numbers - make sure you have a book mark handy or you will never find where you paused. The story is clever and imaginative. I managed to enjoy reading it in spite of the poor format with lierally no background information or commentary.
