From critically acclaimed suspense and thriller author Shelley Coriell comes a new crime fiction series full of mystery, murder, and killer recipes!
Lottie King has the best job in the world catching killers. But after a series of murder investigations leave her bruised and brokenhearted, is it finally time for this legendary Colorado Springs homicide detective to retire? Features four twisty mysteries and Lottie-inspired recipes.
Rough Day -- Colorado Springs homicide detective Lottie King investigates the murder of a long-time friend and founder of a domestic violence shelter and finds herself frantically hunting down someone besides her friend's killer.
Locked Room -- Determined to spend more time with the grands, homicide detective Lottie King volunteers with her granddaughter's Girl Power troop and teaches the girls how to solve the perfect murder, a homicide in a locked room where the killer had no plausible way out.
Old Flame -- The twelve-year-old grandson of an old high school crush hires Detective Lottie King to find out what happened to his grandfather who is missing and probably dead, but no one believes him.
Smooth Sailing -- On the eve of her retirement, Detective Lottie King investigates one last case for Colorado Springs Police, an accidental drowning that turns out to be murder. But all is not smooth sailing...with the investigation or Lottie's retirement.
Author's Note Sassy, salty Detective Lottie King first appeared in my Apostles thriller series and became an instant reader favorite. So here it is, my Grandma with a Glock mystery series! It's perfect for readers who like clever crime fiction with a strong female protagonist, a dash of humor, and a lot of heart. Bonus each short story comes with a Lottie-approved recipe.

So Lottie is a girl I want as a best friend. And considering she's a grandma, boy, would we have gotten into some good, good scrapes together if she had been MY grandma. Minus the dead bodies. She can go look at those all by herself. :o) But speaking of murders...reading about a grandma who's contemplating retirement while also trying to spend time with the grandkiddos while also being somewhat addicted to doing away with the Bad Guy is a fun, fun day of reading. And Lottie is definitely not a Murder She Wrote, Angela Lansbury grandma. She's a total kick-a** Angela Basset grandma. Definitely pick this up if you have need for a great character trying to do some good in this world--and while wearing some pretty high heels while doing it.Product details

Rough Day Detective Lottie King Mysteries Vol 1 edition by Shelley Coriell Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I read this fun collection of stories while on a mountain vacation. This is a collection of about four short mystery stories, a glimpse into the life of detective Lottie King. While I'm not sure any true detective would wear high heels on the job, Lottie King seems to make it work without killing her back in the process. This spry grandma would rather catch "just one more" killer. You won't be disappointed when you choose to join Lottie on one of her adventures in Rough Day.
From the shocking opening paragraph, through a friend's murder, a Girl Power forensics training meeting, looking for an old flame, to her highly anticipated retirement party, Detective Lottie King always pleases. And, don't miss her recipes. (I'm going to bake one. Which on will you choose?)
I love, love, love, Shelley Coriell’s Detective Lottie King. The fiesty detective in fancy shoes is whip smart and full of life. What a pleasure to read. It reminds me of Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple but with spark! Rough Day is a collection of Lottie King short stories but I couldn’t stop turning the pages. I can’t wait to read the rest of the Lottie King stories.
I loved Lottie King from Shelley Coriell's other novel "The Broken," so I was happy to see her get the spotlight in this anthology. King is an enjoyable and fleshed out character, with her love of both grandkids and shoes. Plus, Coriell did an excellent job of showing off King's intelligence and detective skills, all while making her a regular person with lots of humor, spirit, and empathy. All four stories moved along at a great pace and kept you guessing as to who the killers were. All that I ask is that Lottie King puts off retirement a little longer . . . or at least make her a part-time consultant with Colorado Springs PD.
This is a collection of short novellas starring Lottie King, a kick-ass, crime-fighting grandma. One thing I wondered was exactly how old this lady was. In any sense, I thoroughly enjoyed these stories.
A true blood to justice, Lottie King defends the innocent and seeks out the bad guys, not stopping until they get what’s coming to them. In “Rough Day,” Lottie searches for a kidnapped girl. In “Locked Room,” Lottie relays a 30-year old case about an apparent suicide to her granddaughter’s Girl Power troop. And that’s exactly what you get in these crime stories—Girl Power!
Smart, witty, and well-crafted, stories just entice you to read more!
Detective Lottie King is the most hip Grandma / Detective around! From her continuous shoe fetish to her current day problems of juggling work and family; I really enjoyed following Lottie and the logical way she solves her cases. Shelley's recipes at the end of each story add a personal touch that makes me want to know her not only as my favorite author but as a friend as well. The style of Shelley Coriell's writing draws me in and captivates me. It's like she is TELLING me a story instead of me reading a story. Rough Day exceeded my expectations and I can not wait to read more from her. Shelley Coriell is becoming my favorite author very quickly!
Great book. Detective Lottie King is a strong, no-nonsense, kick-ass broad with a mission protect the innocent from all the Big Bads in the world. A grandmother in stiletto heels who can bake pies with her grandchildren one minute and decipher clues at a bloody crime scene the next. Lots of violence (as I would expect from a police procedural) but no sex and only mild cursing. It's all about Lottie and her efforts to bring justice to victims of crimes. Can't wait to read the next book.
